Blair Waldorf Inspired

Recently I have been watching Gossip Girl.  My outfits have gone from subtly preppy to full on Blair Waldorf inspired.  One of my favorite things about GG is the constant outfit inspiration it brings.  I have always had a preppy style, and Blair’s plaid skirts made me incorporate this wool skirt I had tucked away in my closet into my everyday wear.

I think the trick to keeping your plaid modern is to pair unexpected colors.  I paired my red and blue plaid with a mustard yellow sweater.

Circle Skirt Styling

I recently made a trip to Forever 21 and picked up this red circle skirt.  I have always loved the look of circle skirts, but have never purchased one.  I’m so late to embrace this trend but I had to get this when I saw it in red.  When I wore this circle skirt, I had a little trouble deciding what to pair with it, probably due to the fact half that I only have  half of my wardrobe to choose from. Closet downsizing for college is the worst!

I decided to go with a boxy lace shirt and a skinny silver belt.  This combination took me from day to night seamlessly!

New Beginnings and Old Pictures

No, I have not given up on blogging.  I know it has been an eternity since I last posted, but so much has been changing in my  life.  There have been so many new beginnings, I recently started my first year at college, which has already been an amazing whirlwind. I can’t wait to share some college outfit ideas!

These photos are old, I took them with the intent of posting them a few weeks ago, but college happened.  I wore this outfit for an event at my summer job!  I wanted to stay professional but still show my personal style, so I wore this lace H&M skirt with a Schoolboy blazer.

Graduation

This is the time of the year that students everywhere are wrapping up their school years and graduating.  I just graduated from high school and as a way to let some of our own personal style show through our robes, my friends and I decorated our caps.  Decorating your cap is fairly easy; I bought sequin paper at Michael’s Craft Store and glued it on the cap.  I added sequins around the edge and 2014 scrapbook stickers.  I recommend reinforcing the stickers with hot glue, they didn’t stick very well to the sequin texture.   To represent where I am continuing my education, I glued on an I heart Duquesne pin.  I topped the cap off with a black bow with glittered dots.  Another style tip is to keep the tails of your ribbon long,  they compliment long curled hair!

If you need more inspiration on how to decorate your cap, do a quick Pinterest search for cute graduation caps, and let the fun begin.  Although I give you a fair warning, you will probably want to decorate more than one!

The dress I wore to my graduation is from Macy’s.  I chose it because I loved the uniqueness of the cutouts.  For my hair, I used a 1 1/2 inch curling iron and curled away from my face.

Shoes Speak Louder than Words

These shoes have a very strong voice. They are saying, “The girl wearing me is knows what’s up, and my daddy, STEVE MADDEN knows how to knock out a great flat!”

I love red shoes, so when I saw these, I knew I had to add them to my collection.  They are the perfect shoe to complete an outfit.

I actually contemplated posting this outfit because I  feel like I wear a form of it all the time.  However, I thought the shoes brought the look to a whole new level, and I wanted to showcase that.

Those Pants are on Fire

If only Alicia Keys had seen my pants before she wrote her song. I’m feeling a fashion remake!

Red is a staple color for me.  I always find myself gravitating toward it, especially when I buy shoes.  In my outfit, stacked on the red: red pants and red booties.  I added a slouchy sweater and an over-sized scarf, both in neutrals, to balance out the red.  Wearing the two red items is not too much because they are both in different shades.

P.S.  Although it is technically spring, that didn’t stop a few snow flurries from falling out of the sky while I was capturing  this outfit.

Wool Coats and Sweater Vests

Both are classic pieces.
If you break down this outfit, you can see you most likely already own every piece I was wearing. I had so much fun shooting this outfit, and the location was perfect. When I look at the photos, I really get an equestrian vibe on a chilly Autumn weekend.

Too Cool Jacket

This jacket is another amazing find from the Abercrombie Outlet. I am not sure what it is, but something about this jacket just makes me feel cool. It has a really unique fit, which I like. If you want to take this outfit to another level of coolness, you can put on a pair of aviator sunglasses like I did. I though this look was a little sporty so I strung a mixed metal necklace around my neck.
